Assignmate AI — Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 11, 2025
1) Who we are
Assignmate AI (“Assignmate”, “we”, “us”, “our”) provides a Chrome/Edge extension and website that help users get context-aware answers and rephrased text. We act as the data controller for personal data we collect directly.
Contact: privacy@assignmate.ai
We may update this policy at any time. If we make material changes, we’ll notify you via the extension/website or email and update the “Last updated” date.
2) What we collect
2.1 Account data
- Google SSO profile: name and email.
2.2 Content & files (user-initiated)
- Selected text, prompts, and questions you provide.
- Uploads (e.g., PDFs/screenshots) for context retrieval (RAG).
- Answer history to power the in-product history feature.
We collect only what’s needed to deliver user-initiated features and do not collect unrelated web-browsing activity.
2.3 Usage & telemetry
- Feature usage events (e.g., answer/humanize requested/completed), device/browser info, basic diagnostic/error logs.
- IP address is processed transiently for abuse prevention and rate limiting.
2.4 Payments
- We may use a Merchant of Record (e.g., Polar or Creem). Your billing data is processed by that provider as an independent controller under their policies; we receive limited metadata (e.g., plan, status, transaction IDs) to provision your plan.
3) How we use data (purposes & legal bases)
| Purpose | Examples | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Provide the service | Answer generation, humanizer, history | Contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Improve reliability & safety | Telemetry, diagnostics, abuse prevention | Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Account & support | Authentication, notices, support replies | Contract / Legitimate interests |
| Payments & fraud | Subscription provisioning, fraud checks | Contract / Legitimate interests |
| Compliance | Legal/record-keeping obligations | Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) |
We do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA.
4) Data handling details
4.1 Where processing happens (AI providers)
We send your prompts/selected text/uploads only as needed to our AI providers to generate answers/humanized output:
- OpenAI (business/API use not used for model training by default).
- Anthropic (our usage is via API; we do not permit training on your content).
- Google Gemini (enterprise/paid services follow stricter data governance; we avoid sending sensitive data to any service that allows human review on unpaid tiers).
We contractually restrict providers to processing for our service delivery only, and we do not train models on your content for our service.
4.2 Hosting & analytics
- Firebase (auth/storage), Vercel (hosting), Statsig (A/B testing & feature flags). We use first-party cookies/local storage where needed; no third-party marketing pixels.
4.3 Browsers & permissions
- Chrome Web Store: We limit collection and use to what’s necessary for user-facing features disclosed here and in the listing; we do not collect unrelated web-browsing activity.
- Microsoft Edge Add-ons: We encrypt sensitive data, avoid deceptive collection, and clearly disclose data handling in this policy.
5) Retention
- Content (prompts, selections, uploads, answers): kept up to 90 days by default unless you save it (e.g., in history). Saved content remains until you delete it or delete your account.
- Usage/telemetry: retained up to 180 days.
- Billing records: retained per tax/accounting law.
- We may keep minimal logs after account deletion to comply with law, prevent fraud, or resolve disputes.
You can request deletion at any time (see Your rights below).
6) International data transfers (EEA/UK users)
If we transfer personal data outside the EEA/UK (e.g., to the U.S.), we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and comparable safeguards where applicable.
7) Security
We use industry-standard safeguards (encryption in transit, least-privilege access, logical isolation). We minimize long-term storage of raw prompts/files and protect credentials and tokens. If we become aware of a data incident that creates a high risk to your rights, we’ll notify you and regulators as required.
8) Your choices & rights
8.1 In-product controls
- History & content: delete items from history or remove uploaded files.
- Account deletion: request deletion to remove your account and associated content (subject to legal retention).
8.2 Privacy rights
- EEA/UK: access, rectify, erase, restrict/object, portability, and lodge a complaint with your local authority.
- California (CCPA/CPRA): know/access, delete, correct; we do not sell/share personal information; you may use global privacy controls for opt-outs where applicable.
Submit requests: contact@assignmate.ai (please include “Privacy Request” in the subject).
9) Cookies & similar tech
We use strictly necessary cookies/local storage for login/session and A/B testing (Statsig) to improve product quality. We don’t use third-party advertising cookies. See our Cookie Policy for details (purpose, durations, and controls).
10) Children’s privacy
Assignmate is not for children under 13 and not for users under 16 in the EEA/UK without parental/guardian consent. We do not knowingly collect data from children in these groups. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us to delete it.
11) Sharing & disclosures
We share personal data only with:
- Service providers / processors (hosting, analytics, support, AI inference) bound by confidentiality and data-processing terms.
- Payment/Merchant of Record (e.g., Polar or Creem) to process subscriptions; they are independent controllers of billing data under their terms.
- Legal/compliance: to comply with law, protect rights, or investigate abuse.
We never sell personal data and we don’t allow data brokers.
12) Browser store compliance statements
- Chrome Web Store: We comply with Limited Use — data collection/use is limited to what’s necessary for user-facing features disclosed on the store listing and in the UI; we do not collect unrelated web-browsing activity.
- Microsoft Edge Add-ons: We avoid sensitive collection without consent, encrypt user-sensitive data, and disclose practices clearly here.
